Starting with a proper survey

A reliable air conditioning installation begins well before any equipment is fitted. We visit the property to measure rooms, assess insulation and glazing, note existing heating arrangements and identify where indoor and outdoor units could realistically be positioned given the building's layout.

This survey feeds into a heat load calculation, which is how we work out how much cooling and heating capacity a room actually needs. Getting this right matters because an undersized system will struggle to maintain temperature, while an oversized one can cycle on and off more than necessary and may not dehumidify a room as effectively.

Planning indoor and outdoor unit positions

Indoor unit position affects airflow across the room and how noticeable the unit is visually, while outdoor unit position affects noise, access for maintenance and the length of pipe run required. We plan both together, since the distance and route between them influences pipework, cabling and, where relevant, the need for pipe supports or trunking.

Condensate drainage also needs a viable route, whether that is to an existing waste point, a soakaway, or via a pump for situations where gravity drainage is not possible.

Pipework and electrical supply

Refrigerant pipework is run between the indoor and outdoor units, insulated to prevent condensation forming, and secured along its route whether it passes through a wall, loft space or external elevation. We check the property's electrical supply and, where a new circuit or isolator is required for the outdoor unit, this is arranged as part of the installation.

Pressure testing and the vacuum process

Once pipework is connected, the system is pressure tested to check the joints and pipework are sealed correctly before refrigerant is introduced. This is followed by a vacuum process, which removes air and moisture from the pipework, since any moisture left in the system can affect performance and reliability over time.

These steps are a standard part of a proper installation and are not shortcuts we would ever skip, regardless of how straightforward a job might otherwise appear.

Commissioning and handover

After the vacuum process, the system is commissioned, meaning it is started up, checked for correct operation across its functions, and its performance is verified against expected readings. We check for correct cooling and heating operation, appropriate airflow, and that the condensate drainage is working properly.

At handover, we demonstrate the controls, including the remote handset or wall controller and any app-based control where the model supports it, so you understand how to operate the system, change modes and adjust temperature settings.
