Air conditioning across different commercial settings

Commercial premises differ widely in how they are used, which affects both the type of system installed and how it needs to perform. An office with several workstations has different requirements to a hair salon with hood dryers, a gym with exercise equipment generating heat, or a café kitchen where extract ventilation is already in use.

Retail and hospitality premises

Shops and restaurants often have particular challenges around door openings letting in outside air, display lighting adding heat load, and customer comfort needing to be balanced against staff working areas. Restaurants and cafés may also need to consider proximity to kitchen extract systems and ensure the air conditioning does not conflict with existing ventilation.

In clinics and treatment rooms, discreet unit positioning and quiet operation are often priorities, alongside maintaining a stable temperature for client comfort.

Offices and small commercial buildings

Offices frequently need a balance between comfortable working temperatures and the heat generated by computer equipment, printers and meeting room occupancy. Server rooms and comms cupboards are a special case, often requiring more consistent cooling than the general office space to protect equipment, and we size these separately from the main office system.

For small commercial buildings with several separate businesses or tenants, we consider how systems can be split so that individual units or areas can be controlled and, where relevant, metered independently.

Working with landlords and managing agents

A significant amount of our commercial work involves landlords and managing agents arranging installation or servicing on behalf of tenants, or ahead of a new tenancy. We can liaise directly with agents, provide written quotations for approval, and carry out work at times that minimise disruption to an operating business.

For fit-outs and refurbishments, involving us early in the process allows air conditioning to be planned alongside other works such as ceiling installation, electrical first fix and decoration.

Sizing and installation considerations

Commercial spaces are assessed on room size, occupancy, equipment heat, glazing and any existing ductwork or ceiling void constraints. Indoor units may be wall-mounted, ceiling cassette or ducted depending on the ceiling type and aesthetic requirements of the space, while outdoor units are positioned with attention to noise, plant screening and access for future servicing.

Electrical supply capacity is checked as part of the survey, since commercial systems often require dedicated circuits, and any pipework or condensate drainage routes are planned to minimise visible pipework in customer-facing areas.

Ongoing maintenance for commercial systems

Once a system is installed, regular servicing helps keep it running as intended and supports day-to-day reliability for a business that depends on a comfortable environment for staff and customers. We can discuss planned maintenance arrangements alongside installation, or service systems that were installed by others.
