Comfort in a working environment

Office temperature affects how comfortable a space is to work in, and this depends on more than just the size of the room. Equipment such as computers, monitors, printers and lighting all generate heat, and occupancy levels change through the day as staff move between desks, meeting rooms and communal areas.

We assess these factors during the survey so the system recommended reflects how the office is actually used, rather than floor area alone.

Meeting rooms and variable occupancy

Meeting rooms present a particular challenge, since they can move quickly from empty to fully occupied, with a corresponding rise in heat from people and, often, presentation equipment. Depending on the layout, meeting rooms may be zoned separately from the main office so temperature can be adjusted independently when in use.

Server rooms and equipment heat

Server rooms and comms cupboards generate consistent heat and often need more stable cooling than the general office space to protect equipment. We assess these areas separately during the survey, since their requirements can differ significantly from the wider office environment.

Zoning across the office

Larger offices, or those with a mix of open-plan and enclosed areas, often benefit from zoning, where different indoor units or groups of units can be controlled independently. This allows areas with different occupancy patterns or orientations, such as a south-facing side of the building, to be managed separately from the rest of the office.

Heating and cooling

Office systems typically provide both cooling and heating, which can be useful outside the main summer months, though how this integrates with any existing heating system in the building is something we discuss during the survey.

Controls and ongoing maintenance

We explain how controls work at handover, including any centralised control options where multiple units are installed. After installation, planned maintenance visits help support reliable day-to-day operation, and we are happy to discuss a suitable maintenance schedule based on how the office uses its system.
